Our Mission

Improve the living conditions of the animals at the Pflugerville Shelter by doing the following:

  1. Provide an improved or new facility that is temperature controlled.
  2. Encouraging the City of Pflugerville to provide a full time attendant so that the animals’ needs can be better met. Currently, the main caretakers of the animals leave at 1:00 pm daily and don’t return until 8 am the following day.
  3. Assist in getting more dogs and cats adopted by taking more animals to adoption events at Petco and the Pflugerville Farmers’ Market.
  4. Provide more public exposure to the shelter by publishing articles in local periodicals such as the Pflugerville Pflag and Community Impact papers.
  5. Provide funding for equipment and other shelter necessities by having periodic fundraisers such as benefits at local restaurants/clubs and garage sales, etc.

Pflugerville is in great need of a new animal shelter. The current shelter is too small, lacks central heat and air conditioning and is in an almost “hidden” location behind the Gatlinburg subdivision.

Recently in an attempt to call attention to and improve the shelter conditions, a group of women met and formed the Pflugerville Pfurry Pfriends group. An on-line petition requesting that conditions be improved and a new shelter be built was posted on Gopetition.com. Also paper copies were circulated around Pflugerville. Over 700 signatures were obtained in less than a month.

Members of the group also met with The City Manager and Chief Hooker, the city’s Chief of Police. There was a discussion of the problems and possible solutions such as building a new shelter. The group discussed doing fundraising for auxiliary items needed for the new shelter. In addition, the group was placed on the agenda . Members Lynn Vaughan and Heather Shaddock spoke at the meeting in an attempt to educate the council on the shelter and its problems and possible solutions. They also informed them of the group’s plan to do fund raisers to help raise money for shelter items To date, we haven’t heard what the outcome of our city council request for a new shelter has been.
